VIENNA TOWNSHIP (WJRT) – UPDATE: (01/04/17) – Drivers in Vienna Township are being asked to avoid the intersection of Farrand and Webster roads due to a road closure as crews move forward with planned repairs on a large sinkhole.
The road will remain closed until the hole in the pipe is fixed and a temporary road patch is put in place.
Wednesday morning, we spoke with Genesee County Drain Commissioner Jeff Wright, who tells us engineers discovered that a communications company installing a cable accidentally bore a hole in the pipe. Now, they’re in the process of securing a contractor to come out and make that repair.
Wednesday afternoon ABC 12 spoke with Genesee County Drain Engineer Susanne Hogan about the next steps. Hogan says
the pipe will be repaired, the road will be back-filled, and there will be a temporary patch put in place – in the spring road crews will come back and repave the road.
“Every time the snow melts in the spring and we get a lot of rain, it floods around here,” said Mike St. John who lives on Farrand Road.
We asked Wright about that. He says the original pipe is simply too small and it was installed back in 1920.

(01/03/17) – A Vienna Township intersection remains closed as crews work to repair a sink hole.
It’s at West Farrand Road and North Webster Road near the Clio Golf Course.
The sink hole is estimated to be about 15 feet by 15 feet wide and is 10 feet deep.
Barricades are up on all sides to make sure no one gets too close.
Our ABC12 crew was there Tuesday evening as they brought a load of crushed cement to dump in, in an attempt to begin filling the hole.
We’re told engineers will be there in the morning with a camera to assess damage as far as a long-term fix goes.
